The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on Wednesday conferred an award to Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi for his strive against extremism, terrorism and sectarian violence in Pakistan and in the world. The shield was given to religious scholars in a special ceremony held in Abu Dhabi.
The delegates of 57 Islamic countries attended the ceremony. OIC chief Dr. Yousaf Al-Othaimeen also admired the efforts Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi had made to represent the true spirit of Islamic teachings at every forum with a real spirit.

The scholar, however, dedicated his award to security forces of Pakistan who have made a relentless contribution towards longstanding war against terrorism and extremism. Consisting of 57 member countries OIC was founded in 1969 and headquartered in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
