Fidel Castro gets Nishan-e-Pakistan:
Pakistan’s highest civilian award is Nishan-e-Pakistan. The most recent one has awarded to Fidel Castro – President of Cuba on May 23, 2018. He had honoured with the Nishan-e-Pakistan for rendering unwavering services to the South Asian country.
Pakistan will always remember Castro for the generosity shown by him at the time of deadliest earthquake in 2005. Cuba provided Pakistan with the medical assistance including medical equipment, professionals and also set field hospitals in quake effected areas. Several effectees who could not be treated in Pakistan were sent to Cuba for medical care.
Nishan-e-Pakistan has given for the highest degree of service to the state of Pakistan. Fidel Castro governed the Republic of Cuba from 1959 to 1976 as Prime Minister and then as a President till 2008. He died on November 25, 2016 at the age of 90. Fidel’s alliance with Moscow helped trigger the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, actually a 13 day long showdown with the United States of America that brought the world the closest it has been to nuclear war. The 1962 crisis was a confrontation between USA and Soviet Union concerning deployment of missiles in Italy, Turkey by US with the consequent missile deployment by Soviet Union in Cuba.
Fidel swept away capitalism and transformed Cuba from America’s playboy into a symbol of resistance to USA.
